School Closure Junior Infant Work
Hi all,
Firstly we hope that you and your families are coping ok during these extraordinary times. We have put together some ideas/activities for the children to explore over the next week off. March 30th-Friday 3rd. Please do not put yourselves under pressure to do this work. We know these are stressful times and we would be happy if the children are being read to or practice reading their simple words – we just want to support you if you need it.
We have attached links to the Folens website where you can gain free access to the children’s Irish (Abair Liom) and Maths (Planet Maths) programmes along with resources/interactive games. Please follow the steps below if you would like to set that up.

Literacy

This is a nice game to help recap on sounds. It gets progressively difficult. Oxford Owl has an ebook library with over 250 books in it and offers free access to teachers and parents once you create an account at www.oxfordowl.co.uk They also have some vocabulary and comprehension activities for most of the books.
Here are lots of resources to base oral language games and activities around. Some simple words for the children to practice sounding out and blending. You can write these out in bigger writing. If your child is finding these words ok you can encourage them to write it out themselves.
pot, pet, bad, stamp, get, drip, miss, rock, back, duck.
Encourage your child to use these words in sentences.
Fine Motor Skills: lego, cutting out, colouring, playdough
Maths

Patterns- making colour/shape patterns- lots of www.twinkl.ie worksheets available or get them to draw shapes with patterns, Draw a ‘shape creature’
Practice writing numbers 1-5. The children can practice counting while using their toys – show me five cars/dolls etc.
Irish
Don’t put yourself under pressure to do Irish – we know a lot of parents do not have any Irish. However you will be surprised at how well your child picks up the new vocabulary. Children can revise some of the colours we do no already: glás- green, gorm – blue, dearg – red, bándearg – pink, donn- brown, dubh – black, corcra – purple. oráiste – orange, buí – yellow. If you want to print this worksheet, you need to join twinkl – it is free at the moment.

SESE

Art
Find an empty toilet roll holder and create something from it.
